February is already coming to a close and has been a productive month. A fantastic grand opening of Families Forward's Community Market, which I am proud to have granted $115,000 towards, stands out as a testament to our commitment to strengthening the local community. This incredible new resource will support families in need by providing access to fresh food and essential services. Additionally, last week’s successful job fair, co-sponsored by my office, offered valuable opportunities to connect job seekers with employers, furthering our shared goal of economic growth and workforce development. These accomplishments not only reflect the progress we are making together but also underscore our collective dedication to building a stronger, more resilient business community. As we move into the next month, I am excited about the continued growth and impact of these initiatives and others in our community. |

FAMILIES FORWARD COMMUNITY MARKET GRAND OPENING |
FAMILIES FORWARD COMMUNITY MARKET GRAND OPENING |

 |
I joined Families Forward to celebrate the grand opening of its newly refurbished Community Market—a project made possible in part by the County Board of Supervisors’ approval of my $115,000 grant to help bring this vision to life. This market is more than just a food pantry—it provides families in need with dignity, choice, and access to nutritious food in a welcoming environment. With the new Community Market, Families Forward continues its nearly 40-year mission of helping families experiencing homelessness and fighting food insecurity in Orange County. Although Families Forward is based in the Irvine, its impact reaches far beyond, including families in Lake Forest, Santa Ana, Tustin, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, and Anaheim. This newly upgraded market will ensure even more families across the county get the support they need. I am proud to support this organization in making a real impact. No family should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from, and together, we are making a difference. Huge thanks to CEO Madelynn Hirneise, the incredible Families Forward team, and all the volunteers and donors who make this possible! |

ORANGE COUNTY BUSINESS COUNCIL'S BUSINESS CONNECTION PANEL DISCUSSION ON SCAQMD'S NEW RULES |
ORANGE COUNTY BUSINESS COUNCIL'S BUSINESS CONNECTION PANEL DISCUSSION ON SCAQMD'S NEW RULES |
Earlier this month, I participated in the Orange County Business Council’s Business Connection panel discussion on the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Rules that will impact both residents and businesses. The discussion focused primarily on SCAQMD’s proposed amended rules 1111 and 1121 that would require homeowners, landlords, and businesses to replace furnaces and water heaters with costly new “zero emission” electrical units. I am pleased that my op-ed in the OC Register has sparked discussion about these rules that would substantially impact people throughout the Southern California region, while driving up housing and energy costs. I truly hope that SCAQMD considers these impacts and community input before foisting unwise and counterproductive rules on the public. |

IRVINE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT TERRY WALKER RETIREMENT |
IRVINE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT TERRY WALKER RETIREMENT |
Retiring Superintendent Terry Walker was recently celebrated for his 14 years of service as Superintendent and his 30-year tenure with the Irvine Unified School District. Terry served as a teacher, director, and assistant superintendent of human resources in IUSD before being appointed as the District’s top administrator in 2011. Under his leadership, IUSD continued to maintain its status as one of the top-performing school districts in the state and the nation. Families are continually attracted to Irvine because they know that their children will receive a top-quality education. I've had the privilege of knowing Terry for many years, and I deeply value his friendship. He was my daughter Stephanie’s 4th grade teacher. Our heartfelt thanks go to Terry for his steadfast dedication and unwavering commitment to the students of IUSD. |

On Friday, February 7th, we celebrated my Field Representative, Pat Buttress’ 80th birthday. Her good friend Marsha Moeller hosted the event at her house and held one of the most memorable birthday parties ever held. Pat is a treasured member of my staff and is loved by the community she serves. Over one hundred and thirty of Orange County's business, philanthropy, and community leaders were all happy to be there to celebrate Pat on this big milestone! |

On February 1, my office held a free Women’s Self Defense class at Santiago Canyon College. This class covered basic self-defense techniques and was specifically tailored for women. The goal was to enable women to protect themselves in dangerous situations. Many thanks to our friends at USSD Yorba Linda for partnering with us to make this happen. |

OC JOB FAIR IN LAKE FOREST |
Last Week's OC Job Fair in Lake Forest was a huge success! Nearly three hundred job seekers and 70 employers participated. Many thanked my staff for providing them the opportunity to meet potential employers directly. There was great energy in the room throughout the day. Every single one of the employers who completed our survey rated the event as Excellent or Very Good, and 44% of employer respondents indicated they had scheduled interviews or extended job offers. I want to thank my colleagues at the County of Orange, the City of Lake Forest, and the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce for cohosting this successful event with my office! |
