Last month, our neighbors up north in Los Angeles County faced tragedy as multiple fires ravaged communities and sadly took the lives of 29 people. Many of our Orange County firefighters joined to help put out these fires. Here in Orange County, we take fire mitigation, abatement, and preparation seriously, and have made sure that we have the resources, professional emergency response personnel, and equipment to ensure that we are prepared in any scenario. As we move through February, I remain committed to ensuring that Orange County stays safe, responsible, and responsive to the needs of our community. |

 | At the January 28th Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board discussed the uncertain cuts coming from both the federal and state level. I brought up the question of the county’s budget shortfall and asked for a report about county so-called DEI programs that would be unsustainable and should be discontinued to stay within our financial means. This year is the 216th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's birth. We remember the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, who both ended slavery and saved our nation by leading the Union to victory during the American Civil War. His legacy lives on to this day as a reminder to all of us of what strong, principled Presidential leadership looks like during times of crisis. |

Late last month, I had the privilege of helping kick off the Inaugural Celebration event for USA 250-OC! As the Honorary Chair of this monumental organization, USA 250-OC's goal is to engage the citizens and residents of Orange County in commemorating and celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States. Through several events and initiatives over the next year and a half, USA 250-OC will engage with communities across Orange County to explore the history and fundamental principles underlying our constitutional government, advance the historical ideals and aspirations embodied in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, and inspire the American spirit through recognition of our shared heritage, common rights and responsibilities, and respect for each other. I am so excited to be part of this organization's goal to engage the local community as we approach the 250th anniversary of our great nation on July 4, 2026! |

Rotary Club of Tustin - Santa Ana recently hosted a successful fundraising dinner honoring two distinguished Rotarians, Carl Greenwood and David B. Smith. Collectively, the two honorees boast over a century of service to our community, truly embodying Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self.” Pictured is my Field Representative, Al Tello, who presented certificates of recognition to the honorees, acknowledging their many years of community service. The proceeds from the event support the club's annual Educator Good Idea Grants, which provide materials, supplies, and equipment for K-12 teachers. Kudos to Laurie Abelove who served as the fundraising chair for this event. And many thanks to all the dedicated Rotarians who ensured this event ran seamlessly. |
