We're halfway through August, and for many students, summer is over, school is back in session, and parents a bit relieved. Many county residents struggle with the state insurance crisis. That is why I led the Board in passing a resolution I authored urging the State Insurance Commissioner, the State Legislature, and the Governor to strengthen and stabilize California's troubled insurance marketplace. It is imperative that Orange County residents and businesses are given peace of mind in knowing that their homes and assets are protected. I am also proud to announce the Second Annual Orange County Hall of Fame's inductees have been selected! With all the legends spread throughout Orange County's rich history, it was a challenging task to narrow down our finalists. We're all looking forward to our induction ceremony in December! Finally, I ask all of you to stay safe as we enjoy the last few weeks of summer and head into what promises to be an interesting and historic fall. |

Chairman Don Wagner Introduces Resolution to Address Insurance Crisis (Santa Ana, CA) – Chairman Don Wagner has introduced a resolution for approval (Item S28E) at the August 13th Board of Supervisors meeting urging immediate action from the California Insurance Commissioner, the State Legislature, and the Governor to strengthen and stabilize California’s troubled insurance marketplace. This request comes in response to the ongoing turmoil in the insurance market, which has seen major carriers halting the issuance of new homeowners and commercial property insurance policies, thereby limiting coverage options for consumers. “The residents and business owners of Orange County are grappling with significant challenges in securing necessary insurance coverage,” said Chairman Wagner. “Our neighboring county, San Bernardino, and the city of Yorba Linda have already taken similar steps, demonstrating the widespread concern across our region. We must join this collective effort to ensure the stability of our housing and commercial property markets.” State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara commended proactive measures, such as this resolution, underscoring the importance of unified action in addressing this crisis. The resolution reflects the Board’s commitment to safeguarding the economic well-being of Orange County residents. With the insurance market in disarray, it is imperative that state officials take immediate action to prevent further economic repercussions and protect our communities. |

HOMEAID ORANGE COUNTY GRAND RE-OPENING |

I had the opportunity to speak at the grand re-opening of the HomeAid Orange County Family CareCenter in the City of Orange. This center opened in 2017 and shut down for a month for maintenance and facility upgrades. Gina Cunningham, the Executive Director of HomeAid OC, led the festivities and gave a big thank you to all the supporters of the Family CareCenter. This center is strictly for homeless families and has seen over 1400 families successfully come through its doors and move on to more permanent solutions to their homelessness, including housing. I am proud to have allocated $500,000 in Third District funds to help HomeAid keep its doors open. HomeAid's staff and volunteers do excellent work to support homeless families. For example, the Galindo family spoke about how they went through this facility in 2017 and are now in affordable housing and living well. Thank you, HomeAid OC, for all the hard work you do in supporting homeless families get back on their feet. |

ORANGE COUNTY FAIR DEMOLITION DERBY |
I joined the Demolition Derby at the OC Fair, where I was accompanied by Lake Forest Mayor Pro Tem Scott Voigts, Newport Beach Mayor Pro Tem Joe Stapleton, Newport Beach Councilmen Noah Blom and Erik Weigand, and Fullerton Mayor Nick Dunlap. While the odds were stacked against Scott and me, I managed to pull off a third place win, without my car being completely demolished. It was a blast of an event, and all proceeds were donated to CHOC. Thanks to the OC Fair and Southside Towing in Lake Forest for making this happen and to my fellow elected officials for participating! |
