October went by quickly, and we're already in the last two months of the year. Time certainly does fly! It has been a productive month with the Board of Supervisors approving vital contracts with our Sheriff's Department to bolster its ability to investigate and apprehend criminals so that our communities are safer as a result. Our County Fire Authority has worked diligently this fire season amid dry conditions and high winds to quickly put out fires before they spread and threaten our communities. I have also had the opportunity to attend numerous community events across the county, including states of cities events, engaging with our youth on civics and government, and even jumping from a ten-meter platform into a pool to support a local swim team! As we enter November, I look forward to all the fall festivities and holidays and continuing to lead the Board of Supervisors during these last two months of the year. |
SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT CONTRACT FOR MAINTENENCE OF CRIME LAB EQUIPMENT |
At the October 31st Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board unanimously approved a contract with Life Technologies Corporation to provide maintenance for the Sheriff's Department's Crime Lab equipment. This decision has been welcomed by county officials and law enforcement personnel, emphasizing the importance of staying at the forefront of technological advancements in forensic science. The Orange County Crime Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including genetic analyzers, magnetic particle processors, RapidDNA, and Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction instruments. These instruments play a crucial role in expediting DNA analyses, aiding in the swift resolution of criminal cases. The development of this sophisticated system of instruments and diagnostic testing equipment has far-reaching benefits, not only for the Sheriff's Department but also for all law enforcement agencies operating in Orange County. The maintenance contract will ensure that the Crime Lab's equipment remains in top condition, minimizing downtime and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of forensic analyses. This investment in maintaining cutting-edge technology underscores my commitment to support law enforcement and uphold the safety and security of the community.

OCTOBER IS ADOPT A SHELTER DOG MONTH At the October 31st Board meeting, the Board of Supervisors recognized October as Adopt a Shelter Dog Month in Orange County. All of us on the Board of Supervisors care deeply about shelter animals. We strive to make every month "Adopt a Shelter Dog Month" by continuing our efforts to ensure that every dog has a loving, safe, and forever home. There are tremendous benefits that come from adopting a dog, and we encourage friends, family, and community members to consider adopting from our shelter. |

RED RIBBON WEEK At the October 31st Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board recognized Red Ribbon Week, where we were joined by Sheriff Don Barnes and his team and Dr. Veronica Kelley from the Orange County Health Care Agency. Our County is working around the clock, not only during Red Ribbon Week but throughout the year, to try to prevent the influence of drugs on our youth. Our Sheriff's Department oversees the "Above the Influence" program, a six-week program for fifth and sixth-grade students that aims to equip young people with the tools they need to prevent substance experimentation and substance use disorders. During Red Ribbon Week, our Health Care Agency provides: - prevention activities during lunchtime in our schools
- art contests through our Alcohol and Drug Education and Prevention Team
- parent workshops, both in-person and virtual, for all elementary parents
- school resource fairs providing information, awareness, and prevention strategies.
We urge residents to participate in drug prevention education activities, making a visible statement that we are firmly committed to a drug-free county. |

YORBA LINDA STATE OF THE CITY |
I attended Yorba Linda’s State of the City with over 300 residents at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. The highlight of the event was the Citizen of the Year, Frank Stefano, owner of Stefano's Golden Baked Hams. Frank and his wife Colleen have lived in Yorba Linda since 1991, and this year, their business celebrated its 20th anniversary. Frank believes in giving back to his community and has done so for many years, helping with food insecurities and working with small businesses, especially during the pandemic. I'm delighted that Yorba Linda is in such good hands and even more proud to represent Yorba Linda on the Board of Supervisors. |
EL RANCHO CHARTER SCHOOL TUTOR TALKS |
I had the honor of speaking to the 7th & 8th graders of El Rancho Charter School in Anaheim Hills for their Tutorial Talks program. I spoke about the differences between federal, state, and local governments and my responsibilities as a County Supervisor. I had the opportunity to share many of the positive impacts that I have brought to the Third District during my four and a half years in office. The 75 students enjoyed the presentation and asked questions about civics and government. I was also joined by Yorba Linda Councilman Carlos Rodriguez. I was delighted to see the students’ enthusiasm for understanding how government works. I want to thank El Rancho Charter School, Principal Michele Walker, History Department Chair Jessica Niabarger, and History Teacher Rhonda Rodriguez for having me speak! |

I joined OC Sheriff Don Barnes and the Mission Viejo City Council for the 35th Annual Walk Against Drugs & South County Disaster Preparedness Expo. We were also joined by singer/songwriter Karly Moreno. We walked with Mission Viejo High School students, sheriff's deputies, and a color guard in solidarity against drug use. My District Director, Scott Voigts, and Outreach Director, Saga Conroy, also attended. Saga presented a Certificate of Recognition to Karly Moreno, thanking her for her musical talents at this important event for our young people. Karly grew up in Mission Viejo and has been a great role model for the young people of the city. CAL OPTIMA MEDI-CAL RENEWAL & CALFRESH ENROLLMENT EVENT |
I joined CalOptima for a Medi-Cal Renewal and CalFresh Enrollment Event in Irvine. The event gave families the opportunity to enroll for Medi-Cal and CalFresh, get help with their Medi-Cal renewals, and access health screenings while enjoying family fun activities. I’m always grateful for all the work CalOptima Health does for our residents. |
I joined City of Mission Viejo Mayor and two-time Olympic Swimming Gold Medalist, Brian Goodell, for the Mission Viejo Nadadores’ Big Jump event to support their swim team. We both jumped from a ten-meter platform! It was a blast of an event, and I’m always happy to support our local athletes! |
