May is here, and while we're experiencing a bit of "May Gray" weather, there's still plenty to be excited about. The past couple of weeks have been a productive and meaningful. I had the honor of participating in the annual Gift of History program at the Nixon Library—a wonderful event that brings history to life for our third-grade students. I also joined Orange County Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen for the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of Operation Frequent Wind, the U.S. military operation that helped rescue hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees as Saigon fell. In addition, I stood alongside the Board and District Attorney Todd Spitzer to recognize and honor victims' rights. Most recently, my office toured the future site of the Southern California Veterans Cemetery in Anaheim Hills with CalVet Secretary Lindsey Sin as we continue to make progress on this final resting place for our Orange County veterans. As we move toward the summer season, I’m hopeful the sunshine will return soon so we can all enjoy some well-deserved warmth and brighter days ahead! |

I joined Jen and Grant on The Morning Answer recently to discuss yet another bill from Assemblyman Matt Haney- one that this time actually makes sense. I don't often find myself agreeing with politicians like Haney, but AB 602 is a sound bill and could save lives. Take a listen as to why I think so. |

I had the opportunity to welcome Third Grade students at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library for the Gift of History program. As many as 10,000 students across the county joined by zoom with the 300 students in attendance. The Children’s Education Foundation of Orange County has facilitated this award-winning program since 2007. Its goal has always been to make Orange County’s rich history come alive for all third-grade students. To do this, it commissioned Orange County historian Stan Oftelie to write “Nothing Rhymes with Orange,” a unique history book designed specifically for third-grade readers that follows state curriculum guidelines and standards. This was a very special morning for me, as it is always a pleasure to meet the young people who will be the future of our great county. |

50TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION FOR OPERATION FREQUENT WIND |
50TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION FOR OPERATION FREQUENT WIND |
At the end of last month, as a guest of Orange County Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen on board the USS Midway, I attended the 50th Anniversary Commemoration for Operation Frequent Wind, which rescued hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese as Saigon fell to the Viet Cong. Hugh was a featured speaker as one of the many children rescued by the Midway, then under the command of Rear Admiral Lawrence Chambers, now 95 years old and also in attendance Sunday. A flyover of vintage aircraft in the missing man formation completed the day. My thanks to my long time friend, Hugh, for his invitation and hospitality. |

I had the honor to present a Proclamation to Phil Hawkins for his 14 years of service on the Yorba Linda Water District Board of Directors. During Phil's tenure on the Board, YLWD installed its award-winning polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) system, two permanent Heli-Hydrants, and two natural gas backup generators. Thank you for all of your contributions to the people of Orange County, Phil! |

I toured our Orange County Data Center alongside our Chief Information Officer, KC Roestenberg. I was shown the many parts and pieces that keep our county’s data flowing securely and efficiently. Thanks to the dedicated work of our OC Information Technology team, we’re able to protect and power the systems that serve our residents every day. It’s behind-the-scenes work that makes a big difference! |

MEADOWS SENIOR HOME GRAND OPENING |
I joined the The Meadows Senior Home Grand Opening in Lake Forest to celebrate its opening of 65 affordable permanent supportive housing units for low income seniors. The county is proud to have contributed over $1.5 million for this project to support our most vulnerable seniors in Orange County, and I was honored to be able to partake in the grand opening of this community. |
