March is off to a great start, with several positive developments for the thriving Third District!

Last week, I attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the SR-91 Improvement Project in Anaheim, which will bring much-needed enhancements to SR-91 between SR-57 and SR-55. This project will address congestion issues on this heavily traveled freeway.

I was also pleased to join the Foothill Communities Association of North Tustin’s annual meeting to provide an update on my office's activities. As North Tustin is an unincorporated community, the county is directly responsible for its governance. This makes it incumbent upon me and my staff to meet the interests and concerns of its residents, as they don’t have a city council or mayor to represent them. It was great to hear from the community, and it is truly a pleasure to represent North Tustin on the Board of Supervisors.

I look forward to the rest of March and all that lies ahead!

Angel Force USA Honored for Outstanding Partnership with Vietnam Veterans Community for 50th Anniversary Commemoration

SANTA ANA, CA – Supervisor Don Wagner hosted an award ceremony for Angel Force USA on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate Angel Force’s recognition by the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration for Angel Force’s outstanding partnership in supporting the Vietnam Veteran community. Angel Force founder and president, Anne Dunsmore, received the award from Alec Lange, the Outreach Specialist with the Commemorative Committee. Also joining the ceremony was Dennis Cardwell, Angel Force USA Board member, Nick Berardino, President of the Veterans Alliance of Orange County, and Amado C. Salinas II, of the American Legion’s Department of California National Legislative Council.

“I was delighted to host this recognition ceremony at my office for such an outstanding organization, of which I am proud to be a member of its Board of Directors,” said Supervisor Wagner. “Angel Force USA has been vital in fighting for Veterans’ rights, bringing attention to PTSD and Veteran suicide, and honoring them for their service to our country. It is fitting for Anne, the heart and soul of Angel Force, and the entire Angel Force community, to be honored for this recognition. It is well deserved for all this organization does for our Veterans.”

“Veterans of the Vietnam War are a large at-risk group, but their numbers are dwindling, and it’s vital that we show past, present, and future generations of warriors that they are appreciated,” said Anne Dunsmore. “The first step is to properly honor the Vietnam veterans who were treated unfairly when they returned home — a mistake we’ll be working to mend for decades to come. We were incredibly proud to open the 50th anniversary ceremonies on the National Mall a couple of years ago. I was deeply honored to be the opening speaker at that event. Supervisor Wagner has been a steadfast supporter of Angel Force USA, helping us host at least two events each year and personally pinning every Vietnam veteran who attended the ceremonies we’ve held over the past three years.”

Angel Force USA is a nonprofit Veterans advocate organization that raises awareness for the military suicide epidemic by utilizing members of the entertainment industry to entertain, engage and educate on preventing Veteran suicide. Their mission is to Stop SuiSilence, the avoidance of discussion about suicide. Suicide is the leading killer of military servicemembers and veterans.

Saint Patrick's Day honors the Catholic bishop credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. It also serves as a celebration of Irish heritage and culture, something I proudly share with many residents of Orange County.

Wishing everyone a joyful and safe Saint Patrick's Day!

SR-91 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT GROUNDBREAKING

SR-91 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT GROUNDBREAKING

On Friday morning, I had the honor of speaking at the groundbreaking of the SR-91 Improvement Project, which spans from SR-57 to SR-55 in Anaheim.

In partnership with Caltrans, OCTA is launching a transformative project to improve the SR-91 corridor between SR-57 and SR-55. Working alongside the cities of Anaheim, Orange, Placentia, Fullerton, and Yorba Linda, this initiative aims to provide smarter, more efficient travel. Designed to reduce congestion and enhance traffic flow, the project will address issues like weaving and merging between ramps and interchanges, creating a smoother and safer commute for everyone.

This project is located in the Third District, and during my remarks, I referred to our community as "the Thriving Third District." This project is a key part of why we are, indeed, thriving.

Every day, up to 321,000 vehicles travel this corridor, including thousands of commercial trucks moving goods across the region. Unfortunately, congestion and bottlenecks slow travel times, affecting not only commuters but also our local economy. That’s why Friday’s groundbreaking was so significant.

This project will help by:

A) Reducing weaving and merging by separating westbound SR-91 traffic and southbound SR-55 traffic.

B) Adding a new eastbound lane between the 55 and 57.

C) Making improvements between SR-57 and State College Boulevard.

Last week, I joined the Foothill Communities Association of North Tustin’s annual meeting to give an update on what activities my office and the county have been involved in over the last year.

I spoke to the members on vital issues facing the North Tustin community, such as the county budget, public safety, finally getting North Tustin its long awaited unique zip code, construction of Crawford Canyon Park, and the county’s new housing element which protects local zoning control.

It was a well attended event with lots of participation and questions from the audience. I’m delighted to represent the North Tustin community and am always grateful for the Foothill Communities Association’s input on local issues.

On February 25th, I attended the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board meeting to present a proclamation to Santiago Canyon College President Jeannie Kim, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Santiago Canyon College opening its doors.

This is a great milestone for a college that has given fantastic educational opportunities to the young people of our community for so many years. I began my public service with a community college district and know firsthand that California's community colleges provide a wonderful value and outstanding education.

Congratulations to Santiago Canyon College on 25 years, and we look forward to many more!

Love Irvine hosted a fundraiser at Sessions West Coast Deli to support Irvine's adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion. The event saw 20% of the proceeds from food and beverage purchases go towards this worthy cause.

This effort not only provided much-needed financial support for the Marines, but also brought the community together to show its appreciation for their service. A card-making station was set up where attendees created “Welcome Home” cards for Marines returning from deployment.

That's my Field Representative, Al Tello, pictured with Curtis Drever, President of Love Irvine, along with their better halves.

Mark your calendars for Love Irvine’s 5th annual Citywide Serve Day on Saturday, November 8, 2025! For more information about Love Irvine and how you can get involved, visit www.loveirvine.org
