Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. Please share it with any of your friends who might be interested in the county and what we can do to be helpful. This past week, the Board of Supervisors recognized January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, honoring the six million Jewish lives lost and reaffirming our commitment to never forget the atrocities of the Nazi regime. I remain deeply grateful for Orange County’s vibrant Jewish community. I also have important information below for North Tustin residents regarding concerns over an unfair sales tax rate, including steps you can take while a new ZIP code is pending. I was proud to join OCTA for the groundbreaking of the I-5 expansion project. This is a critical investment that will reduce congestion, improve safety, and strengthen our regional economy through enhanced transportation infrastructure serving Irvine, Tustin, and all of Orange County. With January already at a close, 2026 has been a productive year so far! I look forward to what February has to offer! |

The Board of Supervisors recognized January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On January 27, 1945, Allied forces liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp, revealing the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazi regime against the Jewish people. This revelation exposed a systematic campaign of murder that claimed six million Jewish lives across German-occupied Europe, accounting for approximately two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population. Although eighty-one years have passed since liberation, we must never forget the atrocities committed by the Nazi regime against the Jewish people. I am grateful for Orange County’s vibrant Jewish community, many of whose members I am honored to call friends. We were joined by several representatives from Orange County’s Jewish community, including: Rabbi Richard Steinberg – Commissioner, OC Human Relations Commission; Senior Rabbi, Congregation Shir Ha-Ma’a lot Rabbi Reuven Mintz- Chabad Center for Jewish Life, Newport Beach Rabbi Adam Greenwald of Congregation B’nai Israel Rabbi Tim Gaylord of Temple Beth Sholom Jewish Federation of Orange County Patty Seyburn (Chair of the Board of Directors) Stephanie Eptsein (COO and acting CEO) Joey Good (Senior Director, Community Relations) Andrea Alfi (Director, Leadership Engagement & Community Relations) Robin Steinmetz (Manager, Student to Student) ADL Brigitte Frankel (Chair of the Board of Directors) Matt Friedman (Regional Director, Orange County/Long Beach)
JCAN Ilana Meirovitch (CEO and Executive Director) Julie Heiman (Director of Policy, Legal, and Government Affairs) Josh Shaffer (Community Engagement Manager)
Israeli American Council Inbal Greenberg (Regional Director) Leslie Tucker (Orange County Activism Manager)

On January 23, I joined OCTA for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new I-5 expansion project. As Orange County continues to grow, so does the need for a modern, efficient transportation system that better serves the residents, workers and businesses. Projects like this one are designed to meet the county’s evolving needs and to ensure our transportation network keeps pace with the region. Thanks to the strong local support of Measure M, along with state and federal funding, we’re able to deliver critical improvements along I-5 through Irvine and Tustin, one of the county’s busiest and most essential corridors. This project will add general-purpose and auxiliary lanes, enhance interchanges, and modernize key sections of the freeway to reduce congestion, improve safety, and provide a more reliable travel experience for commuters, residents and visitors alike. Investments like this also support economic vitality by improving goods movement, reducing travel delays, and helping businesses and workers stay connected across the region. By improving how people travel along I-5, these investments support a strong regional economy, help people get where they need to go more efficiently, and ensure this vital corridor continues to serve not just the Third District, but all of Orange County for generations to come. |
