Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. Please share it with any of your friends who might be interested in the county and what we can do to be helpful. This month, as a we celebrated Veterans Day, we honored our veterans with a number of incredible community events, including my very own Veterans Resource Fair and Concert in Mission Viejo. We had numerous cities and veterans organizations share the services they provide to our local veteran community. Now, with Thanksgiving around the corner, many of us will gather with family and friends to appreciate our loved ones and reflect on all that we’re grateful for. As we head into the holiday season, I want to wish you and your families a safe, warm, and very Happy Thanksgiving! |

In 1621, more than four centuries ago, the Pilgrims marked the end of their first successful harvest in the New World with a three-day gathering. In total, there were 90 members of the Wampanoag Nation and the 53 surviving passengers from the Mayflower. Over two centuries later, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln established Thanksgiving as a national holiday, calling for a day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” As we come together with family and friends this Thanksgiving, may we reflect on the roots of this tradition, one that unites us in gratitude and reminds us to give thanks to God for the many blessings in our lives. |

At this week's Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board recognized November as Adaption Awareness Month. In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, 334 adoptions were finalized as a result of the efforts by the Orange County Social Services Agency. My family knows personally of the joys and blessings of adoption. During this month, we encourage all citizens, community agencies, religious organizations, and businesses to celebrate adoption, honor familes that grow through adoption, and encourage children with uncertain futures while they await permanent familes. |

NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESS AWARENESS WEEK |
NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESS AWARENESS WEEK |
At this week's Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board recognized November as National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week. During this month, we want to highlight the hard work that County’s Office of Care Coordination, CalOptima Health, Orange County United Way, Families Forward, Latino Health Access, Pathways of Hope and the OC Hunger Alliance, and so many other organizations do to help those in need. This includes operating emergency shelters, permanent housing programs, supportive services, and food pantries to people experiencing homelessness and hunger. We encourage everyone to recognize that many people in Orange County do not have housing, struggle with hunger and food insecurity, and need support. You can be that support through this holiday season - and year around - by working with the above groups or other non-profit service organizations doing such great work in Orange County. |

VETERANS CONCERT AND RESOURCE FAIR |
VETERANS CONCERT AND RESOURCE FAIR |
My office, along with Angel Force USA, hosted a Veterans Concert and Resource Fair at the Kershaw Garden in Mission Viejo ahead of the Veterans Day Holiday. We were also joined by the City of Mission Viejo, City of Lake Forest, City of Rancho Santa Margarita, U.S.VETS, Patriots and Paws, and the Tierney Center for Veteran Services, who all provided materials for their Veteran services to the attendees. The live music, food trucks, and great weather were a perfect way to celebrate our Orange County Veteran community. I am grateful to all our partners who worked to make this event happen. |

At the November 4 Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board held a Veterans Day ceremony where Nick Berardino, President of the Veterans Alliance of Orange County (VALOR), and VALOR Board Member Bobby McDonald, presented awards highlighting the Board of Supervisors’ accomplishments in assisting the veterans community. We were pleasantly surprised with a three song musical number playing patriotic music. We are immensely grateful for all the work and advocacy that VALOR does for our Veterans community, and hope everyone had a very happy Veterans Day. |

MARINE CORPS 250TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION |
I attended the Marine Corps’ 250 birthday celebration at the Lyon Air Museum, sponsored by the Flying Leathernecks Aviation Museum, which will soon open in the Great Park in Irvine. Former Governor Pete Wilson joined us, as keynote speaker Major General James Wellons cut the cake. In the finest Marine Corps tradition, Governor Wilson, as the oldest Marine in attendance, shared the first piece of cake with the youngest Marine there. Among the many guests, I was honored to introduce Mission Viejo Mayor Trish Kelley and her Marine husband to the former governor. |
