This year is going by fast! We're already in spring and have accomplished so much in a few short weeks. I visited Sacramento to speak to our state representatives on several pressing issues facing the county, including the Veterans cemetery, homelessness, and transportation. The county also added four new canine units to our Sheriff's Department force to further bolster OCSD's capabilities in policing and keeping our communities safe. I also had the pleasure of honoring our Vietnam War Veterans by declaring March 29th as Vietnam War Veterans' Day at this week's Board meeting. As we close out March and enter the Spring season, I look forward to what next month has to offer! |

Chairman Don Wagner and Orange County Board of Supervisors Approve Donation of Four Patrol Canines to Orange County Sheriff’s Department Chairman Don Wagner and the Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve a donation of four patrol dogs to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department from the Orange County Sheriff’s Advisory Council (OCSAC). These patrol dogs are used to track and apprehend suspects and to identify physical evidence in various environments. One of the canines is specially trained in firearms detection. All of the dogs are trained in tracking/trailing, obedience, and practical agility under dangerous, high stress, and demanding situations with multiple distractions. “I’m delighted to welcome Solo, Axl, Tito, and Badger to our Sheriff’s Department force,” said Chairman Wagner. “Dogs of this caliber are eagerly sought by the Department. They are among the most disciplined and capable K-9 units that our law enforcement agencies could ask for. This generous donation by OCSAC of highly trained dogs equips the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to respond to any challenges and to better protect the welfare of our law enforcement officers and the residents they serve.” These highly trained patrol dogs will play a crucial role in enhancing public safety and supporting our law enforcement officers in their daily duties. Chairman Wagner and the Board of Supervisors are proud to support the Orange County Sheriff's Department in their mission to protect and serve our community. |

Their dedication, in partnership with our community, ensures that Orange County residents thrive and stay healthy. This year's theme, "Protecting, Connecting, and Thriving: We Are All Public Health," reminds us that health goes beyond medical care. At this week's Board meeting, we declared March 29th as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. We stand united in remembrance, paying homage to the valor and sacrifice of those who served in the Vietnam War. We extend our deepest gratitude to the brave Vietnam veterans who, with unyielding resolve, confronted the specter of communism and defended the ideals of freedom, both at home and abroad. Like so many of our fellow Americans before them, they selflessly answered the call to service. Their gallantry and unwavering commitment embody the very essence of liberty and service to our beloved nation. In 1967, nearly half a million American troops, alongside our allies, stood shoulder to shoulder in South Vietnam, marking a defining moment in our military's history. Today, we honor their sacrifices, their dedication to preserving the values we hold dear, and their unwavering resolve in the face of adversity. As we observe Veterans and Military Families Month, let us stand in solidarity with our Vietnam veterans. Let us acknowledge their enduring contributions to America's interests, the cause of peace, and the pursuit of stability, not only in Southeast Asia but around the globe. In this Commemoration of the Veterans of the Vietnam War, we also recognize our duty to support the healing of our Vietnam veterans and their families. We remember the more than 58,000 heroes immortalized on the black granite wall of the Vietnam War Memorial in our nation's capital. We pay tribute to the brave patriots who endured the trials of captivity as prisoners of war. I call upon our citizens, businesses, and governmental entities to join us in honoring the service and sacrifice of our Vietnam veterans, with special emphasis on the contributions of our local heroes who have helped shape the character of Orange County. May we, with unwavering conviction, express our enduring respect, extend our continuing care, and reaffirm our everlasting commitment to all Vietnam veterans and their families. |
I want to wish everyone a very Happy Holy Week and Easter Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. |
