Orange County Board of Supervisors Approves Chairman Don Wagner’s Request for Proposals for Use of Irvine Lake for Continued Recreational Activities

(Santa Ana, CA) – The Orange County Board of Supervisors has unanimously greenlit Chairman Don Wagner's Request for Proposals (RFP) aimed at broadening the recreational offerings at Irvine Lake. The approved RFP seeks to enhance public access to the lake, providing a range of recreational amenities such as fishing, boating, bicycling, and hiking.

"Reopening Irvine Lake to the public has been a top priority since I took office,” said Chairman Wagner. “After its closure for three years due to disagreements among entities, I led negotiations for the lake's reopening in 2019 for public fishing on weekends. This RFP is a crucial step toward restoring the full spectrum of activities our community enjoyed before the closure."

The approved RFP aims to invite proposals that go beyond weekend shoreline fishing, offering a wider range of recreational amenities and activities. This initiative is geared towards restoring Irvine Lake's role as a hub for community recreation, aligning with the public's expectations before the closure.

Chairman Wagner remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Orange County residents, ensuring Irvine Lake becomes a thriving hub for a wide range of recreational activities. Chairman Wagner aims to ensure that the enhanced offerings at Irvine Lake cater to the varied interests and preferences of the residents.

In revitalizing Irvine Lake, Chairman Wagner envisions a place where individuals of all ages can come together to partake in activities that promote healthy outdoor recreation and community bonding. Chairman Wagner holds a commitment to the expectations of the community in preserving the nostalgic essence that makes Irvine Lake a cherished landmark.

JANUARY RECOGNITIONS

POSITIVE PARENTING AWARENESS MONTH

Email Image

Earlier this month, the Board proclaimed January as Positive Parenting Awareness Month in Orange County.

Positive parenting practices can help strengthen the bonds between parents and children, helping to prevent high-risk behaviors that reduce our children’s opportunities for success.

The County of Orange Health Care Agency has programs that can help parents strengthen their positive parenting skills.

Since October of 2020, all Orange County parents, and caregivers have had access to a free self-paced, evidence-based, on-line curriculum called the Positive Parenting Program. Through October of last year, 11,534 Orange County parents have taken advantage of this offering.

We are doing the work here in Orange County to support parents and proclaiming January 2024 Positive Parenting Awareness Month highlights our commitment to Orange County families.

EBT FRAUD INVESTIGATION PRESS CONFERENCE

Last Friday, I joined Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer in a press conference highlighting a major crackdown by law enforcement on EBT fraud.

Forty-eight suspects involved in this fraud, with ties to Romanian organized crime, have been arrested and are under investigation for targeting recipients of public assistance funds intended for basic necessities.

More than $185,000 in cash and 491 cloned public assistance cards worth $471,360 in stolen funds have been recovered by investigators from the Orange County District Attorney’s office and 21 law enforcement agencies across the county.

Between January 2023 and January 2024, Orange County saw a 55% decrease in EBT funds stolen. This is a testament to the concerted efforts by our law enforcement to crack down on EBT fraud.

I am proud of all the hard work our law enforcement agencies have put into delivering justice to criminals, and I am grateful for my partnership with DA Spitzer, the Orange County Sheriff's Department, and all local law enforcement agencies in our collective efforts to ensure that our law enforcement officers are well equipped to tackle crime and continue to keep Orange County safe.
