FLEEING MURDERER FOUND AFTER TWO DAY MANHUNT |
FLEEING MURDERER FOUND AFTER TWO DAY MANHUNT |
I interviewed with ABC 7 to discuss the apprehension of Jose Angel Aguilar after a two-day manhunt by law enforcement. Aguilar, who had been serving time for a murder committed in 2021 at the age of 17, had been on an "academic furlough", and fled while attending classes at Santiago Canyon College after he cut off his ankle bracelet. Despite the Probation Department and the District Attorney’s office protesting the furlough, the courts did not withdraw the furlough privlege before Aguilar cut off his monitor and disappeared into the community. Prompt law enforcement action by local police and Sheriffs re-arrested Aguilar before he could hurt anyone again. But sadly, our state laws have allowed these situations to occur, and until we change our soft-on-crime attitude, they will continue. |

JOPLIN RANCH PROPERTY TOUR |
JOPLIN RANCH PROPERTY TOUR |
I toured the Joplin Ranch property, which encompasses approximately 330 acres of County-owned land in unincorporated Trabuco Canyon. This property boasts a significant county history. Situated in the foothills of Saddleback Mountain and adjacent to the Cleveland National Forest, the property includes the former Joplin Youth Center. The facility was originally established in 1956 after Andrew B. Joplin donated the land as a place for wayward boys. Until its closure in 2019, the Joplin Youth Center was operated by Orange County’s Probation Department as a facility for at-risk boys ages 12 to 16 who were in juvenile detention for a variety of reasons. During the COVID outbreak in 2020, the facility was used as a shelter for elderly homeless individuals who did not show signs of infection. |

I presented a proclamation to Drs. Matt Landry and Sangeeta Shrivastava, both registered dietitians and proud Orange County residents, in celebration of National Nutrition Month. Good nutrition is one of the most powerful tools we have to support lifelong health, and we’re grateful for all the work the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics does to promote healthy eating habits. • Making balanced food choices • Planning nutritious meals on any budget • Building sustainable healthy habits • Finding guidance from Registered Dietitian Nutritionists |

ORANGE COUNTY ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM |
ORANGE COUNTY ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM |
The Orange County Animal Response Team had its first volunteer training session earlier this month. My District Director, Scott Voigts, joined the session on my behalf. With a full room of over 100 trainees and guests, this training session was a huge success. With over 70 volunteers trained and over 100 more waiting for the next training session in May, Orange County’s equestrian community now has a full fledged volunteer force to assist when the next emergency comes. I want to thank Orange Park Association President Sherry Panttaja, Yorba Linda County Riders President Dee Dee Friedrich, and El Rodeo Rescue Founder Bill Kolvstad and all other organizers who made this training possible. |

Congratulations to Applied Medical for its new building grand opening in Lake Forest! This expansion greatly increases Applied Medical’s manufacturing capacity, and enhances efficiency by integrating key manufacturing chains with new technologies. My District Director Scott Voigts, and Community Outreach Director Saga Conroy, had an in-depth tour in the new building and presented a certificate of recognition to Applied Medical’s management team. THANK YOU LINDSEY AND REMINGTON |
THANK YOU LINDSEY AND REMINGTON |
Lindsey and Remington, two fantastic interns for Team Wagner, just concluded their internships in my office. These two were valued members of our team, who we regularly immersed in county policy, board agendas, and other county procedures, so they could truly learn how local government works. We are grateful for their time and commitment to my office and wish them the best in their future endeavors. |
