November has been off to a good start! Adjusting to the time change has been a bit of a shift, but it's always a sign that the season is changing.

Veterans Day is also just around the corner, a time to honor and express our deepest gratitude to those who have served in the military, defending the freedoms, and the cause of liberty around the world. It's a moment to reflect on their sacrifices and the unwavering commitment they made for the safety and security of our nation.

And, of course, there's Thanksgiving, a holiday that encourages us to slow down, connect with loved ones, and reflect on all that we're grateful for. It’s a chance to celebrate the bonds we share and acknowledge the blessings in our lives, both big and small.

I look forward to the rest of this month, filled with moments of reflection, connection, and gratitude, and hope you all take time to appreciate the people and experiences that make life meaningful.

At Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board recognized November 11th as Veterans Day, a day each year that we honor the men and women who made the selfless decision to defend our nation from threats to our liberty.

We were joined by Nick Berardino, a Marine Corps, Vietnam Veteran who is President of the Veterans Alliance of Orange County (VALOR), who surprised the Board with medals from VALOR in appreciation of the Board’s support for Orange County Veterans.

Here in Orange County, we are immensely grateful for the sacrifices of our Veteran community, and wish them all a very happy Veterans Day.

From our nation’s humble beginnings at the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the “shot heard ‘round the world”, to the Battle of Gettysburg when our nation was torn apart in the Civil War, to the trenches of the Marne in France during World War I, and the beaches of Normandy and island hopping during World War II, from Korea to Vietnam, to the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq, Veterans of all conflicts from all generations and branches are remembered today for their valor and tireless commitment to defending the freedoms that we all hold so dearly.

Far too often, our Veterans are neglected, forgotten, and denied the quality services they deserve for the sacrifices they made for our country. Worse, they are sometimes even blamed for the foreign policy decisions of Washington bureaucrats that are completely out of their control.

Here in Orange County, we feel that our Veterans community is one of our greatest assets, and we will never forget their sacrifices. This Board has made strides in ensuring that our Veteran population gets the care they need. All of us on the Board have worked hard to ensure that Orange County is a place where our Veterans can live, knowing they have the love, respect, and care they deserve.

It is the least we can do for all the sacrifices they have made to protect our freedoms. We can’t thank our Veterans enough for all they have done.

On Sunday morning, I joined the Tustin Dino Dash and Run for Education fundraiser, hosted by the Tustin Public Schools Foundation and Tustin Unified School District, which had over 7,000 participants this year.

Like last year, I had the honor of starting off the 5K run!

On Wednesday, October 30, I cohosted a fentanyl forum with Anaheim Council Member Natalie Meeks, Canyon High School, Orange Unified School District, Orange County Health Care Agency, Anaheim Police Department, and Anaheim Fire And Rescue.

In this forum, the community learned the facts about this crisis and were given preventative tips and resources from the experts. There was a brief training on how to administer Naloxone, a life-saving opioid overdose reversal drug, and everyone received a free box at the end of the forum.

I want to thank my cohosts for helping organize this forum with vital information for our community as we continue to face the challenges of the fentanyl epidemic.

Supervisor Katrina Foley and I joined the Orange County Public Affairs Association’s Election Day luncheon for a bipartisan and lighthearted discussion on election matters.

We both had a great time in a friendly environment as we discussed this pivotal election hours before the polls closed.

My Field Representative, Pat Buttress, joined Orange Mayor Dan Slater and the Orange Chamber of Commerce for the Ronald McDonald House Orange County’s grand opening of its  expansion of the "House that Love Built", where she presented a certificate of recognition.

The house first opened in 1989.  Since then it has provided comfort, care, and support by keeping families together when their child needs medical care in Southern California hospitals. It strives to make families feel at home, even when they can't be.

Pat had the privilege of serving on the Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors for 10 years when it first opened its doors. She assisted in obtaining the Orange City Council's approval of this new addition that is being celebrated above by the Orange Chamber of Commerce.

Late last month, my Field Representative, Al Tello, and Communications Director, Ian Henderson, joined the OC Parks team to do a site inspection of the shoreline of Irvine Lake for the upcoming Fishing Derby in December.

The shoreline looked great and ready for another fun filled fishing derby. We will stock the lake in early December so the fish will be biting for the Derby. Thank you Orange County Parks for all your hard work in preparing the lake for this fun filled annual event!

My Field Representative, Pat Buttress, presented a certificate of recognition to Orange High School for the ribbon cutting celebrating the opening of its new administration building.

Over the past three years, Orange High School has undergone a big facelift with the addition of a modern Science and Technology building as well as new classrooms. All this has occurred because of the passage of Measure S which has allowed Orange Unified School District to enhance the learning opportunities for all its students at the four high schools in its district.

Congratulations on this major addition to your campus!
