August has been productive, among other things, with the Board of Supervisors approving my resolution to support CalVet's application to the US Department of Veterans Affairs for the long-awaited Southern California Veterans Cemetery in Gypsum Canyon. We are one step closer to this Veterans Cemetery becoming a reality! In other news, I had the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Angels game late last month. As a huge baseball fan, it was an honor that I will always remember. Earlier this month, my office joined several local police departments and the Sheriff's Department for their annual National Night Out events, an annual event to build trust and foster strong police-community partnerships. Lastly, Orange County Parks is hosting its Summer Concert Series and Summer Cinema Series. All concerts are free to attend, with free parking beginning at 5 p.m. Concerts begin at 6 p.m. and last approximately two hours. Bring blankets, beach chairs, and the kids! Concertgoers can purchase delicious bites and snacks at the on-site food trucks and concession booths. The OC Parks Sunset Cinema Series continues at Irvine Regional Park with two more movie nights: “Elemental” on August 15 and “Shrek” on August 22. Movies start at sunset (around 8:10 p.m.) but arrive early to grab a spot! Free parking is available starting at 6 p.m. For more information, visit OCParks.com. |

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS PASSES SUPERVISOR DON WAGNER'S RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT CALVET'S FEDERAL GRANTS APPLICATION FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA VETERANS CEMETERY AT GYPSUM CANYON (Santa Ana, CA) – At the August 12 Board meeting, the Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed Supervisor Wagner’s resolution to support the California Department of Veterans Affairs’ application to the federal government’s Veterans Cemetery Grants Program for the Southern California Veterans Cemetery at Gypsum Canyon. “Orange County is home to more than 100,000 veterans, yet we remain the largest county in California without a dedicated veterans cemetery,” said Supervisor Wagner. “The site at Gypsum Canyon is shovel-ready, has widespread community support, and represents a viable and immediate option for delivering on this long overdue promise.” By approving this resolution, the Board is helping advance the efforts to secure federal grant funding needed to establish the Southern California Veterans Cemetery at Gypsum Canyon in Anaheim Hills. Since taking office, Supervisor Wagner has made it a priority to make the decades-long promised Orange County Veterans Cemetery a reality. The location in Gypsum Canyon has received the support of all 34 cities in Orange County, the County of Orange, the State of California, and over 100 local, state, and national veterans’ organizations. |

I had the incredible honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Angels game in Anaheim. As a lifelong baseball fan, some of my most cherished memories are of bringing my kids and grandkids to games and sharing the magic of the ballpark with them. From every cheer to each seventh-inning stretch, those moments were special. To top it off, Mike Trout delivered his 397th career home run, a two-run blast that also marked his 1,001st RBI. |

Team Wagner attended the grand opening of Luna Park in Irvine and joined a workout class, one of the featured activities during the park’s inaugural festivities. My Field Representative, Al Tello, always seems to get the tough assignments, but he handles them like a pro, I must say. Luna Park (Orange County’s largest neighborhood park) is a 13-acre park featuring a spectacular playground, two swimming pools, a ninja course, zipline, BBQ areas, expansive lawn shaded by heritage trees, and an impressive array of sports courts including pickleball, basketball, and handball. The grand opening was a daylong celebration, bringing families together with interactive activities, a delicious lineup of food trucks, and neighborhood fun that captured the spirit of Irvine’s newest community. |
