OC PUBLIC WORKS RECOGNTION OF HEROISM

OC PUBLIC WORKS RECOGNTION OF HEROISM

On the morning of Monday, October 6, an Orange County Public Works Operations and Maintenance crew demonstrated extraordinary bravery, teamwork, and dedication while responding to a life-threatening emergency.

Shortly after finishing their morning safety meeting, Shawn Jones and Cesar Siqueiros, saw a truck veer off the road, strike multiple utility poles, and come to rest dangerously close to a cliff edge.

They quickly called 911, alerted their teammates and supervisor by radio, and carefully assessed the scene for downed power lines and other hazards before approaching.

The driver was dazed and disoriented and appeared ready to step out of the vehicle, potentially right over the cliff. Without hesitation, Shawn and Cesar stepped in, guiding the driver to safety and keeping him calm until emergency responders arrived.

At the same time, their teammates, Marcos Antunez and Abel Banuelos, immediately took action, setting up cones, barriers, and flags to manage traffic and protect both the public and responding agencies.

Their quick thinking and coordination allowed OC Fire Authority, CHP, and Southern California Edison to do their jobs safely and efficiently.

This OCPW crew’s composure under pressure, their professionalism, and their instinct to serve reflect the very best of Orange County government. They embody our County’s core values of safety, service, and teamwork, and their preparedness that day quite literally made a life-saving difference.

I joined The Morning Answer’s Jen and Grant for their annual AM 870 Townhall 2025 Conservative Forum.

I participated in a discussion panel with Jen and Grant, along with Shiloh Marx, founder of the California Election Integrity Initiative, where we discussed election integrity concerns in the state, as well as some of the recent challenges I have faced here in Orange County with our voter rolls.

It was a great turnout and wonderful opportunity to discuss pressing issues facing Californians today.

Thanks Jen and Grant and the entire AM 870 team for putting together such a fantastic event!

Over 300 people attended the City of Yorba Linda City Hall’s State of the City Address on October 14 at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Citizen of the Year, Char Watroba-Knapp, a beloved community volunteer who turned 89 just the day before! Char continues to serve Yorba Linda through the Sunrise Rotary, the Littlest Angel Guild for CHOC, Food for Families, and her church.

The City of Yorba Linda is in my district, and I am extremely proud to represent Char and the residents of this wonderful community.

Last week, I was visited by four young women who participated in the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative Fellowship program.

These four young professionals work in local municipalities in their respective countries, and came to Orange County on this fellowship program to learn from our county departments, so they can take what they learned and apply it in their government roles back home.

I want to thank Lucille and Christa from the Philippines, Tanya from Thailand, and Sopheap from Cambodia for highlighting their experiences to my staff and me.

We wish them all the best in their careers and hope that the experience is helpful for their respective communities.

I spoke at the Tustin Chamber of Commerce’s Top of the Morning event at Even House in Tustin, answering questions about the Board of Supervisors and how I can help the wonderful city of Tustin.

It’s always a pleasure speaking with Tustin’s business leaders about what we can do to support the local business community.

I’m proud to have been a sponsor of the 55th Annual Silverado Country Fair & Folk Festival—a two-day celebration filled with Wild West-style fun, live music, delicious food, quirky contests, and local arts and crafts!

My Chief of Staff, Tara Campbell, represented me at this year’s event and greeted everyone on my behalf.

Many thanks to Jane Bove, Geoff Sarkissian, and the many dedicated volunteers who make this annual event possible.

The festivities kicked off Saturday morning with the beloved “UnParade”, a quirky, Western-themed procession. This year’s Grand Marshal was Kevin Topp, a 28-year resident of Silverado, joined by his best friend, Kowboy.

Thanks to all who helped put together this cherished annual community event!
