With Thanksgiving just around the corner, there is much to be grateful for this year. Even as the year is winding down, my office certainly isn't. I'll be hosting my third annual Trout Fishing Derby at Irvine Lake on Saturday, December 7th. It is free to the public. The Board will also be hosting our 2024 Orange County Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony next month. Nine more Orange County legends go into our hall of fame that day. We're all incredibly excited to honor those from Orange County who have exemplified the very best our community. I am excited for this last month of 2024 as we close out this very productive year! |

In 1621, 403 years ago, the Pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving after their first harvest in the New World. This feast lasted three days and was attended by 90 Native American Wampanoag people and 53 survivors of the Mayflower. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a federal holiday by proclaiming it to be a day of "Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens." As we gather with our loved ones this Thanksgiving, let us remember the origins of this holiday that brings family, friends, and loved ones together to thank God for all he has given us.
