October is nearly over, and it has flown by. My office has been hard at work during this time, sponsoring the Love Orange and Love Mission Viejo community events as well as the Orange and Yorba Linda State of the City events, amongst others. We are also faced with the difficult news of Supervisor Andrew Do's resignation in light of federal charges against him. As Chairman, it is my responsibility to take over the consituent work of districts that are left vacant to ensure that the residents of the district still receive their vital county services. The business of the county will continue to get done, and the residents of District 1 will be serviced as needed. With all that is going on, we still have Halloween ahead of us, where family and friends can enjoy their time together, celebrating this festive occasion filled with creativity, costumes, and community spirit. It's a chance to embrace the joy of the season, share some laughs, and perhaps indulge in a few spooky stories, reminding us that even amidst challenges, moments of fun and connection are vital for our well-being. I wish you all a safe and Happy Halloween! |

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ADOPTS RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 36 |
ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ADOPTS RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 36 |
 |
On October 8th, the Orange County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution in support of Proposition 36, the Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act. Thank you to my colleague Supervisor Doug Chaffee for bringing this item forward with me and to OC Sheriff Don Barnes and Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer for sharing their support for the item.
This bipartisan measure introduces much-needed reforms to Proposition 47, addressing nearly a decade of unintended consequences.
Proposition 47 has contributed to the rise in organized retail theft, store closures, and difficulties in getting people the mental health and addiction treatment they desperately need. Proposition 36 offers targeted solutions, ensuring public safety while helping individuals break the cycle of addiction and crime.
With enhanced accountability for fentanyl trafficking, expanded mental health and drug treatment services, and job training, Prop 36 prioritizes both public safety and rehabilitation. The Board of Supervisors believes this is a critical step in reducing crime and improving the well-being of Orange County and communities across California. |

I had the privilege of leading the Pledge of Allegiance at the Yorba Linda First Responders Appreciation Breakfast held at Black Gold Golf Club. This was a wonderful event! Congratulations to all the men and women in law enforcement, fire protection, and emergency medical services, who were honored that morning. First responders are the backbone when it comes to protecting our public safety. We owe them our upmost respect and heartfelt gratitude for their service. Kudos to the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce for organizing this annual event. |

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH PRESS CONFERENCE AT CITY OF HOPE IRVINE CAMPUS |
I joined City of Hope Orange County, Orange County Health Care Agency, CalOptima, and other local elected leaders for a Breast Cancer Awareness Month Press Conference at City of Hope’s Irvine campus. Every October, we are encouraged to wear pink to spread awareness of breast cancer and treatment, which City of Hope is dedicated to. Even in a place as remarkable as Orange County, none of us are immune to the threat of cancer. Breast cancer affects women of all backgrounds. In 2025, the City of Hope Orange County will add an in-patient hospital dedicated exclusively to treating and curing care to its campus. It is gratifying to know that the residents of Orange County have a reliable treatment center like City of Hope right in their backyard. |

It was a pleasure to attend and lead the Pledge of Allegiance at Yorba Linda’s State of the City event this week, with over 300 attendees. A true highlight was recognizing Lainie Nicholson as this year’s Citizen of the Year. Lainie, a dedicated community volunteer, has led Girl Scout Troops for over a decade, guiding five girls to earn the prestigious Gold Award. She’s also an active member of Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary Club and serves as Vice President of Yorba Linda Food for Families, helping ensure families in need have food on their tables. It was an honor to present her with a Proclamation for her outstanding service. Mayor Campbell gave a spirited overview of the city’s achievements and shared exciting plans for the future, promising even more great things for Yorba Linda’s residents and businesses. Mayor Campbell is an amazing young woman who serves Yorba Linda- and all the residents of the Third District- with class, dignity, dedication, and enormous talent. |
