These past two weeks, Chairman Wagner oversaw Orange County’s preparation for Hurricane Hilary, as well as coordination with the Sheriff's Department, Orange County Fire Authority, and District Attorney's office on the response to the tragic shooting at Cook's Corner in Trabuco Canyon. We are proud of our County’s emergency preparedness that ensured the safety of residents as the storm approached and their bravery in responding to the tragedy at Cook's Corner. Due to Hilary's trajectory, it was downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it made landfall in Orange County. Our County was spared from the anticipated destruction that projections told us. There were no deaths, no injuries, and no significant infrastructure damage. That being said, our County prepared in case the worst should happen. Our Sheriff's deputies informed residents of incoming storm conditions and assisted with the voluntary evacuations. Our OC Public Works team cleared debris from culverts and roads constantly throughout the week distributing tens of thousands of sandbags to residents throughout the weekend. After the storm passed, our County was largely untouched, but we are all grateful for our robust response to the storm. Just a few days later, we were struck with grief from the tragic shooting in Trabuco Canyon that took the lives of three innocent people while six more were injured. Thankfully, our Orange County Sheriff's deputies arrived within two minutes to confront the shooter, while our OCFA paramedics arrived in four minutes to treat the wounded, likely saving even more lives due to their rapid response to the situation. |
Chairman Wagner joined Fox News on the morning of August 20th to warn Orange County residents of the possible flooding and dangerous surf conditions facing the community. Thankfully, our County came out of this storm with no casualties or significant infrastructure damage. We're grateful for all the preventative efforts our emergency personnel and first responders took in preparation for Hurricane Hilary. |
