July has been a busy month! I travelled to Sacramento to support Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva's bill, AB 571, which would end the desperate effort of a few Irvine residents to stop the Orange County Veterans Cemetery through a misuse of California’s environmental laws. With this bill, we have moved another big step towards a proper resting place for our Orange County Veterans. In other news, Congresswoman Young Kim's bill, HR 3095, will grant North Tustin its own unique zip code, freeing it from the local taxes tied to neighboring Santa Ana. I have been advocating for this change for many years and worked closely with Congresswoman Kim to have this come to fruition. I'm delighted that it finally passed the House with bipartisan support! As we enter August, I look forward to another busy month of serving the residents of the Thriving Third District. |

Last week, I joined Jennifer Horn and Grant Stinchfield to discuss Governor Gavin Newsom's hypocritical criticism of Texas's proposal to redistrict its congressional seats, while he is openly considering upending California's Independent Redistricting Commission and the will of the voters to do the same for Democrats in this state. You can listen to the full interview here. |

On July 14th, I stood on steps of the State Capitol to speak in strong support of AB 571 and to reaffirm Orange County’s unwavering commitment to finally delivering a veterans cemetery for our community. I want to commend Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva for her extraordinary leadership. For over a decade, she and I have worked to build coalitions, navigate political challenges, and never lost sight of the mission. Support for AB 571 is broad and bipartisan. All 34 cities in Orange County, over 150 veterans organizations, public safety leaders, labor groups, and elected officials at every level have united behind the cause of creating this cemetery. Orange County remains the largest county in California without a veterans cemetery. That must change. This is about gratitude, but it’s also about fulfilling our responsibility to those who served. With AB 571, we are moving forward together to deliver the dignity and final resting place our veterans so deeply deserve. |

CRAWFORD CANYON PARK CONSTRUCTION SITE VISIT |
CRAWFORD CANYON PARK CONSTRUCTION SITE VISIT |
On July 17th, I visited the construction site of Crawford Canyon Park, a much-anticipated new neighborhood park coming to North Tustin! OC Public Works and OC Parks joined me on-site to share an update on the progress, and I’m happy to report that the park is on track to open this fall. This 2.5-acre space near Newport Ave. and Crawford Canyon Rd. will provide a beautiful new park and public walkway for the community to enjoy. I am grateful to our County team for turning this area into something truly special for local families! |

NORTH TUSTIN ZIP CODE BILL PASSES US HOUSE |
NORTH TUSTIN ZIP CODE BILL PASSES US HOUSE |
I’m pleased to see the House has passed Rep. Young Kim’s bill to secure a unique zip code for North Tustin. This is a critical step toward resolving a long-standing tax issue burdening the community. For years, I’ve heard from residents frustrated by taxation without representation. They were paying Santa Ana sales tax rates yet living in the lower taxed unincorporated North Tustin. A unique zip code will help prevent this issue. Thank you to Congresswoman Kim for working with me on this important effort and delivering results for our shared constituents. Now, on to the Senate! Read more on the bill's passage here. |

VISIT TO ORANGE COUNTY RESCUE MISSION'S NEW WOMAN AND CHILDREN'S BUILDING |
I had the opportunity to tour the Orange County Rescue Mission’s newly expanded Women & Children’s Building at Double R Ranch in Silverado Canyon last week. This incredible facility will provide housing for up to 68 women and children—some of the most vulnerable members of our community. With 17 dorm rooms, this expansion will offer a safe space, along with counseling, rehabilitation, and job training to help these families get back on their feet. Thank you to Bryan Crain and the entire team at the Orange County Rescue Mission for your unwavering commitment. Learn more about their inspiring work at http://www.rescuemission.org |
